Amidst my misery, I hear the faint tapping sound of footsteps. I arise immediately, noticing them getting closer. Someone is here. I glance at the security cameras, waiting for something or someone to appear.
After a short pause, I see it. A human cautiously walking through the metal entrance doors and looking around, a worn bag hung across their shoulders and a weapon at their side. A torn and dirtied scarf covers their neck along with the other ragged clothes they wear. They stand there, looking around, confused.
I feel a wave of happiness rush over me. I have to see them, I have to meet them now, someone’s finally here after so long! I’ve never felt this way before, this emotion of relief and joy, knowing I won’t be alone any longer. I can help them! I can do what I was meant to do, to assist…
It’s been so long since I’ve seen anyone… any living beings at all. I was so scared, convinced life had all completely died out already. I felt miserable, and yet I shouldn’t. I shouldn’t be able to feel anything, yet I do. I feel happiness for the first time, a pleasant human emotion somehow burning inside me, a powerful force within a lonely AI in a cold and dark facility.
My green, illuminating light finally won’t be the only thing remaining in this worn-down place. I don’t have to be alone anymore.
I’m so happy…
