By the time I reach the surface, the sun is setting, casting a warm orange glow across the land. Exhausted from climbing, I sit down and admire the sight before me. There is nothing in the distance besides crumbling, abandoned buildings and the snowy land that stretches on for miles.
I sit down and rummage through my bag, grabbing one of the soup cans I scavenged from the bunker and lighting a fire, using the book I grabbed from the library as fuel. As I wait for my food to cook, I watch the sunset-tinted clouds idly pass by, as the sky slowly becomes dimmer.
After a few minutes of idly waiting, I finish heating up the soup and take a sip. It’s warm, although not the best tasting food I’ve had before, but at least it’s enough to keep me going…
The glowing orange sun in the distance is setting, a reminder that soon my surroundings will be pitch black, with only the stars illuminating the night before me, as well as the long journey ahead. I hike for a bit before taking shelter in a tall structure, with a perfect view of the distance that stretches out for miles and the darkening sky.
I lay myself on the ground, using my bag as a pillow, and before I know it I’m asleep again, dreaming of better days.
