I stayed by her side until I noticed her breathing had stopped.
She passed away, peacefully, in her sleep.
Even if I wish our time had lasted longer… I’m glad things seemed to have a happy ending.
After spending some time recollecting my thoughts, I float back out into the same, quiet, lonely hallways I had once resented. The quiet, mechanical hum… the uninviting, cold metal walls… It’s all the same. Even if I’m alone again, I still have something to live for.
Slowly entering the greenhouse room, I’m met with the sight of a beautiful orange pansy, its vibrant colors unlike anything else I’d seen before.
“It bloomed! It… it really bloomed!”
I exclaim to myself, even if nobody is left to hear it. I get a closer look at the beautiful flower, amazed by its colorful appearance. I had never seen such a spectacular sight up close…
“Lena… she… she missed it…”
…
If I can’t save her…
I can fulfill my promise and save you instead.
